5 things you have to  Know About La Casa de Papel Season 3

Image result for la casa de papel 3

1-If you haven't made plans to watch La Casa de Papel (otherwise known as Money Heist) on Netflix, it's time to add it to your list.

Why? Well, the Spanish show comes with plenty of twists and turns that leave viewers on the edge of their seats every episode.
According to Forbes, the show became the most popular foreign language TV series on the streaming platform in 2018. And though it is entirely in Spanish, subtitles make it super easy to keep up with all of the action. Ahead of the season three premiere in July, we highly recommend brushing up on what went down during seasons one and two.

If you'll recall, Spanish actor Álvaro Morte stars in the thriller as The Professor, a mysterious criminal mastermind that plans an epic heist of The Royal Mint in Spain (where all of the country's money is made) over the course of six months. By promising them money, he recruits a group of eight thieves who lock themselves inside the mint with 67 hostages for 11 days. The goal? To print 2.4 billion euros, marking the biggest robbery in history.
The thieves, of course, have become central to the show, and each of them have the following codenames: Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Moscow (Paco Tous), Denver (Jaime Lorente Lopez), Berlin (Pedro Alonso), Nairobi (Alba Flores), Rio (Miguel Herrán), Helsinki (Darko Peric), and Oslo (Roberto Garcia Ruiz). Some of the thieves die. And in addition, fans have fallen under the spell of two other main characters—Raquel (Itziar Ituño), the head hostage negotiator assigned to figuring out who the thieves are, and Monica (Esther Acebo), one of the hostages who—spoiler alert—ends up leaving with the thieves for reasons we will get into a little later.
Yes, the plotline gets even trickier, but trust us, it's well worth watching with a bag of popcorn. Ahead of the return of season three, here's everything we know so far.
2- What is the release date for La Casa de Papel Season 3 ?

Netflix confirmed season three premieres on July 19. In the above teaser, fans get to see a snippet of what life's been like for the surviving thieves—Tokyo, Rio, Nairobi, Helsinki, Denver, The Professor—plus Raquel and Monica.
The tagline for season three is "their vacations are over," which could mean the Spanish government is coming after them for the heist since the identities of Tokyo, Rio, and The Professor have been revealed.

3- Is there a trailer for La Casa de Papel Season 3 ?

Netflix hasn't released a trailer yet, but after confirming season three, they did post a video in which showrunner Álex Pina and the remaining cast and crew read through the new script. In the clip above, they all appear to be happy to reunite.

How do I watch La Casa The Papel ?
Seasons one and two are currently available to stream on Netflix. The company offers a free one-month trail before charging $9 to $16 a month, depending on the streaming quality you prefer.

Netflix hasn't released a trailer yet, but after confirming season three, they did post a video in which showrunner Álex Pina and the remaining cast and crew read through the new script. In the clip above, they all appear to be happy to reunite.

4- What will La Casa de Papel season 3 be about?
In an interview with Movie ManiacsMorte and Corberó admitted they don't know much about the new season. "Álex Pina is such an imaginative, brilliant mastermind that it's always surprising," Morte said. "I have the sensation that there will be a lot of action," Corberó said. "I don't know and they didn't tell me but I want action."
That said, we have an idea of where the new plot could take us based on where seasons one and two left off.
Here's a refresher: the thieves put the 67 hostages to use (again, over the course of 11 days) to print money, bag it, and help move it to their secret escape route—a tunnel inside one of the vaults. In season two, they narrowly avoided capture by the police and successfully printed 1 million euros. Monica memorably fell for Denver and together they ran away to raise a child.

Roberto Garver

Tokyo and Rio, meanwhile, sparked a romance that will hopefully continue in season three. And Moscow, who was also Denver's dad, died after being shot by the police. Helsinki ended Oslo's life since he was unwell after getting injured by some of the hostages. And if that weren't enough, Berlin is presumed dead after being shot by the police who entered the mint trying to capture the thieves.

Unforgettably, The Professor got close with Raquel (who's trying to solve the robbery case), in an effort to figure out how much she reallyknows about his secret heist. He inserted himself into her life by talking to her at a cafe and introducing himself by his real name, Salvador "Salva" Martin. Eventually, they become romantically involved—that is, until she realized he's the mastermind behind the heist (or so we think). Regardless, Raquel falls in love with The Professor and leaves everything behind to join him on the island of Palawan a year after the heist is complete.
So what will happen to the surviving thieves—and between The Professor and Raquel? Those answers are exactly what we expect to be revealed in season three.
5- Which cast members are returning to La Casa de Papel?

image

In season two, viewers said goodbye to Oslo, Moscow, and Berlin. But based on the teaser above, we expect to see Corberó, Ituño, Morte, Flores, Herrán, Acebo, and Peric return.

Everything To Know About Fast & Furious 9

Here's everything to know about Fast & Furious 9 so far.

Image result for fast and furious 9

The Fast & Furious franchise will expand this summer with its first-ever spinoff film, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. That movie will follow Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw on their own standalone adventure, before the mainline series continues next year.

It's Easy for Fast & Furious to Give Justice For Han - Here's How

In the years since the original Fast and the Furious hit theaters in 2001, the property has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of box office gross, scope, and even critical reception. The franchise has also managed to attract quite the assortment of actors in that time, ranging from big-name action stars like Johnson and Statham to popular character actors (Luke Evans), actors who have since become super-stars (Gal Gadot), and even Oscar-winners in the forms of Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron. At its core, however, the series is still the story of ex-convict street racer Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his extended family. That hasn't changed since Fast and the Furious costar Paul Walker's tragic death during production on Furious 7, either.

Image result for fast and furious 9

Since Universal decided to bump Fast & Furious 9 back to 2020 and give its original 2019 release date to Hobbs & Shaw, there's an extra year to go until the franchise's mainline narrative picks up from where 2017's The Fate of the Furious left things. As such, there's still a lot that we don't know about the film when it comes to plot and (in some cases) even casting details. With that in mind, here's everything we do know about the movie right now.

FAST & FURIOUS 9 RELEASES IN MAY 2020

Fast & Furious 8 with Vin Diesel filming in Cuba

Image result for fast and furious 9

Fans will have to wait a little longer than originally expected for Fast & Furious 9 to hit theaters next year. Universal moved the film to April 10, 2020 after delaying it for Hobbs & Shaw, but only recently pushed it back six weeks to May 22. Thankfully, by the look of things, the movie's latest delay was purely a business decision. Fast & Furious 9's old April date has now been given to Bond 25, which is getting a rewrite and needs additional time for development. Since Universal is distributing 007's next adventure, they shifted the ninth Fast & Furious movie away to avoid pitting its tentpoles against one another.

THE ROCK WON'T BE BACK FOR FAST & FURIOUS 9

Image result for fast and furious 9

Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto and Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs in Fast and Furious 5
Dwayne Johnson has already confirmed he won't reprise Luke Hobbs for Fast & Furious 9. The news isn't surprising, seeing as The Rock and Diesel infamously butted heads during production on The Fate of the Furious and didn't even film any of their scenes together. Johnson has also expressed an interest in continuing to expand his section of the franchise with a Hobbs & Shaw sequel, assuming the spinoff is successful enough to warrant a followup (which it almost certainly will be). Fate of the Furious struggled to balance the screen time between Johnson and Diesel's characters anyway, so it's probably for the best that they're working separately for now.

THERE ISN'T A FAST & FURIOUS 9 TRAILER YET

Fast & Furious 9 hasn't even started shooting yet, so we're still a ways off from a trailer being released.

Image result for fast and furious 9

Diesel is known for keeping his fans in the loop when his movies are in production and will probably release a first-look image online when filming begins. However, an actual trailer probably won't be arriving until the end of this year and almost certainly won't be attached to Hobbs & Shaw this August. With movies like Star Wars: Episode IX and Jumanji 3 hitting theaters in December, that's likely when the Fast & Furious 9 teaser will drop online.

HOBBS & SHAW ISN'T FAST & FURIOUS 9

Understandably, some fans are probably under the impression that Hobbs & Shaw has replaced Fast & Furious 9 in a more literal sense, as opposed to simply taking its old release date.

Image result for fast and furious 9

It doesn't help that longtime Fast & Furious costar Tyrese Gibson publicly criticized Johnson for making the spinoff and, for those who didn't follow the story closely, seemed to indicate that Fast & Furious 9 had been outright cancelled because of Hobbs & Shaw. That's not the case and Daniel Casey (Kin) is currently in the process of writing the next Fast & Furious sequel, with Justin Lin returning to direct after sitting out the last two installments.

FAST 10 WILL BE THE LAST FILM (IN THE MAIN SERIES)

Vin Diesel and Justin Lin Fast & Furious

Image result for fast and furious 9

The current plan is to end the main Fast & Furious movies with Fast & Furious 10 in 2021 (or whenever the film ultimately reaches theaters). There was once talk of Fast & Furious 9 and 10 being filmed back to back, but that no longer appears to be in the cards. Diesel has further claimed that Lin is already set to direct Fast & Furious 10, which suggests the filmmaker will knowingly set the stage for the finale with the ninth installment. Keeping that in mind: Universal has plans to continue the franchise past Fast & Furious 10 and is moving towards releasing a new Fast & Furious movie (be it a spinoff or sequel) every year in the foreseeable future.

OTHER UPCOMING FAST & FURIOUS FILMS

There's at least one Fast & Furious spinoff in active development right now, in addition to Hobbs & Shaw and Fast & Furious 9 and 10.

Image result for fast and furious 9

The film doesn't have a title yet, but is described as a women-led spinoff and already has three female writers working on the script in some fashion. Diesel previously claimed that spinoff movie storylines for "various characters" have been written, so there could be even more Fast & Furious spinoffs in the pipeline that we don't know about just yet. That's not including Hobbs & Shaw 2, which Johnson has already said he intends to make and wants Jason Momoa to play one of his brothers in.

The Aquaman actor had to pass on the first Hobbs & Shaw due to his busy schedule.

Captain Marvel: 8 Superpowers Only True Fans Know She Has

After watching a number of trailers and TV spots for the soon-to-be-released Captain Marvel film from Marvel Studios, it's evident viewers are about to see a new level of power unlike anything seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given the MCU's mostly science and technology-based catalog of heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and the Hulk, fans are excited to see a powerful energy-based character like Captain Marvel on the big screen. Yet, despite the incredible flashiness of the powers we've seen exhibited in the various promos for Captain Marvel, the specifics of her powers aren't as simply defined as other characters like Hawkeye or Thor.

When we take a closer look at the various abilities that make up her unique power set, we can see a unique mixture of four different alien races; a Kree/Human hybrid that has been genetically experimented on by the Brood, then physically merged with a techno-organic alien. The ultimate close encounter of humans and aliens is exemplified in one woman with an incredibly varied power set that we'll be examining further today, so we can see why Captain Marvel is considered the MCU's strongest hero. Sorry Hulk, but it looks like Danvers is the strongest one there is, after all.

8 - IMMORTALITY

One of Carol's most powerful and impressive abilities hasn't been tested very much in the comics, and for good reason. Due to the combination of her Kree physiology, her transformation into Binary, and her merger with the alien Cru, Carol's regenerative abilities are totally off the scale, and she has technically become immortal given the right circumstances.

During the Dark Reign event, Carol was overloaded by Norman Osborn and exploded... only to reconstitute her energy form and return to life.

7- ENHANCED COMBAT TRAINING

We've seen in the trailers for Captain Marvel that Carol undergoes extensive training during her time with the Kree, seen working with Jude Law's Yon-Rogg as she presumably learns how to handle her new Kree abilities. In the comics, Carol initially relied on her training from the US military, though as her superhero career progressed she trained in fighting techniques with heroes on Earth and in the farthest reaches of the universe alongside teams like the Starjammers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

6- PRECOGNITIVE "SEVENTH SENSE"

As we take a look at the huge collection of powers Carol Danvers actually has, there are a few that don't pop up as often as the others. Her precognitive "seventh sense" is a good example of that, as this ability is rarely used by modern writers. Initially, the seventh sense was part of what triggered Carol Danvers blackouts, allowing the split personality of Ms. Marvel to appear. These two fractured personalities were eventually merged, reducing the usefulness of her seventh sense.

5- HEALING FACTOR

It's true that her rapid healing ability was increased when her latent Kree genes were activated, but in the comics, Captain Marvel has an entirely different level of healing than we can expect to see in the MCU, either in her film or in Phase 4. Carol's regenerative abilities were increased exponentially after a physical merger with the techno-organic Brood Hunter known as Cru, and her healing factor could put Wolverine's to shame. She can also focus her energy into others, boosting their own healing abilities.

4- TOXIN RESISTANCE

Thanks to her unique Kree/human physiology, Carol is nearly impervious to all known poisons and toxins. This is a very useful ability when dealing with other planets and races, and was likely genetically bred into the Kree for that exact reason. Of course, Carol's immunities were kicked up another notch after her enhancement by Cru, which increased her resistance to the point where she was able to fight off the alien infection of a Brood Queen. There's very little that can actually take Carol down, a rarity for an MCU hero.

3- TELEPORTATION AND ILLUSION-CASTING... MAYBE

Carol Danvers Wearing a SHIELD Hat in Captain Marvel

To be clear, Carol Danvers has never demonstrated either teleportation or illusion-casting in her power set throughout her run as a hero... but Mar-Vell has. And while Carol's origin was recently retconned in the pages of The Life of Captain Marvel, she originally had her genetic structure mixed with Mar-Vell's by the Psyche-Magnitron, and thus gained all of his powers and abilities. At the time, those powers and abilities did include teleportation and illusion-casting, though both abilities were infrequently used by Mar-Vell.

2- WARBIRD

Finally, Carol has been greatly affected at times by the various altered realities the heroes find themselves dealing with over the years. It was in House of M that Carol first saw her potential as one of the premiere heroes in the Marvel universe that re-inspired her super-heroic career. Unfortunately, during the Age of Apocalypse reality change, Carol was an ally of Weapon X (Wolverine) who was forcibly spliced with Reaper tech, turning her into a dark cybernetic Warbird far removed from her more heroic counterpart.

1- SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH

 Captain Marvel clenched fist

Super-strength is one of the most common power sets seen in comic book heroes, which leads to quite a few heated debates among comic fans. Carol's strength mostly comes from her half-Kree physiology, which greatly enhanced her past the peak of human physicality. While her true strength levels change depending on the writer, she has gone toe-to-toe with the Hulk, and during Civil War II an energized Carol knocked Thanos flat. It's a scene we'd love to see on the big screen in Avengers: Endgame.

10 Things The Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Might Be Lying About

Ever since Avengers: Endgame, MCU fans have found themselves unable to trust the movies’ trailers. Due to misleading editing or altered shots, they can cover up spoilers to hoodwink audiences who spend their days analyzing every shot and line of dialogue to see if they can uncover hidden plot details.

Iron Man's Legacy Looms Large In New Spider-Man: Far From Home Poster

The trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which will be swinging into theaters this summer, have been particularly dubious in how they’ve laid out the plot and characters of the sequel. Maybe we’re just being paranoid, but here are some things that Spider-Man: Far From Home's latest trailer might just be lying about.

1- MYSTERIO IS A GOOD GUY

In the comics, Mysterio is one of Spider-Man’s most threatening foes. He hates Spidey with a passion and will do anything to destroy him – just like everyone else in the Sinister Six – so it seems unusual that he would be working with Spidey in Far From Home.

This could be one of those cases where the MCU tweaks the canon from the comics, but it’s highly unlikely that Marvel’s premier franchise would take one of its premier character's premier villains and turn them into a good guy. He might become a villain halfway through, but he might also be revealed to have been a villain all along.

2- THE ELEMENTALS ARE FROM THE MULTIVERSE

Mysterio’s claims of a multiverse are consistent with MCU lore, but they’re not consistent with his characterization from the comics. In the comics, Mysterio is bad news. He’s one of Spidey’s greatest foes, and his most useful asset is manipulation. So, diehard fans have been taking everything he says in the Far From Home trailers with a pinch of salt.

RELATED:
Spider-Man: All The Proof Mysterio Is Lying About The Multiverse In Far From Home

This guy’s whole deal is creating really realistic illusions to trick Spider-Man, and those illusions usually look something like the Elementals. The multiverse is probably real, because Endgame gave us multiple catastrophic finger-snaps and a ton of time travel, but the Elementals might not be a result of it.

3-  M.J. KNOWS PETER IS SPIDER-MAN

A couple of times in Homecoming, M.J. gets jokingly suspicious of Peter whenever he excuses himself from a group event. She’s at the base of the Washington Monument when he calls over his suit and starts climbing it, she saw him rush out of the homecoming dance, and in the Far From Home trailer, she outright tells Peter that she knows he’s Spider-Man.

Is this going to be the revelation that brings them closer together and makes them fall in love, or are the Marvel people just screwing with us? If this were true, they probably wouldn’t spoil it in the trailer.

4-  PETER IS COOL WITH HAVING JUST DIED

In the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailers, Peter seems to be having a great time on his European vacation, flirting with his crush and bunking with his best bud. But let’s not forget that this guy literally just came back from the dead. He turned to dust at the hands of a genocidal alien overlord and then reappeared from nothingness five years later. Why’s he so cool with that?

Well, the simplest answer is, he probably isn’t. It’s just that none of the scenes that deal with the fallout of being killed and then resurrected have been included in the trailer, because it’s not enticing to a summer movie crowd of children.

5- EVERYTHING IS REALLY HAPPENING

As long as we’re really getting skeptical about the trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, perhaps we should question whether or not everything’s really happening. It’s a trippy storyline, with Peter and all his friends the same age they were before the five-year time jump.

Image result for SPIDER MAN FAR FROM HOME

Maybe there will be a haunting plot twist at the end that reveals that the whole movie has taken place inside Spidey’s mind and he’s been strapped to a table and hooked up to a mind-warping machine by the Sinister Six. This one is absurdly unlikely, but a lot about the plot of the movie as we’ve been presented it also seems pretty unlikely.

6- THE SPIDEY IN THE STEALTH SUIT IS OUR SPIDEY

The so-called “stealth suit” that Spider-Man wears in some of the clips in the Far From Home trailer closely resembles the Spider-Man Noir costume from the comics. Now, this might not actually be Spider-Man Noir, but it could be a Spider-Man from an alternative reality, who managed to make it into our reality to either fight our Spidey or team up with him.

Image result for SPIDER MAN FAR FROM HOME

He could be from a slightly alternative reality in which the teenagePeter Parker was still bitten by that radioactive spider and became your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, but instead of coming up with a red-and-blue color scheme, he went with black.

7- THANOS’ SNAP CREATED THE MULTIVERSE

In the latest Far From Home trailer, Nick Fury says that the multiverse was created when Thanos snapped his fingers, but what if that’s not it? This is the guy who worked for a government agency for decades without realizing it was being run by Nazis. One MCU fan theory is that Thanos’ destructive finger-snap is not what created the multiverse.

Rather, it was Loki, when he took the Space Stone and disappeared into a timeline in which Thanos didn’t kill him. This is pretty plausible, since the Loki moment was given precedence in Endgame, despite having nothing to do with the central plot.

8- NICK FURY IS REALLY NICK FURY

Nick Fury recruits Spider-Man to join forces with Mysterio and take on the Elementals in the Far From Home trailer. But it all seems a little coincidental. Someone like Doctor Strange or Ant-Man would be far more qualified to deal with a threat of this scale. They have the mastery of reality that multiversal conflict requires. So, why Spider-Man?

Some fans think it’s because Nick Fury isn’t really Nick Fury and is instead the Chameleon in disguise. It would make a lot more sense than the plot presented by the trailer. Maybe he could even be a Skrull and Phase 4 will be all about the “Secret Invasion.”

9- MYSTERIO IS REALLY MYSTERIO

Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio in Spider-Man Far From Home .In the Far From Home trailer, Mysterio tells Spider-Man that in the reality he comes from, there is no Spider-Man. Some fans have theorized – although it is a bit of a stretch – that Mysterio is actually Spider-Man from another reality.

Image result for SPIDER MAN FAR FROM HOME

RELATED:
There's A Good Reason Spider-Man Doesn't Exist In Mysterio's Dimension

Either Quentin Beck was the one in that reality who got bitten by the radioactive spider and given Spidey’s powers, or Far From Home’s Mysterio is really Peter Parker using an alias to avoid freaking out his younger alternative self. Maybe he’s not Spider-Man – because, again, that is a bit of a stretch – but he might not really be Mysterio.

10- EVERY OTHER SUPERHERO IS UNAVAILABLE

Avengers Endgame Quantum Realm Suits Hulk
By the time the final battle in Avengers: Endgame rolled around, there were more than 30 major MCU characters with superpowers who were around to join the fight. And we’re supposed to believe that now, they’re all too busy to deal with the small matter of a hole being ripped in the fabric of reality?

It made sense in Homecoming, when all Peter was doing was busting an arms dealing ring, because that’s below the Avengers’ paygrade, but the universe getting ripped and split apart? That sounds like something that should require everyone’s help. It seems unlikely that they’d just be busy and it would all rest on “the kid.”

Reality you have to know  before you see Detective Pikachu

Since its first trailer premiered, Detective Pikachu been one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019. Thanks to recent phenomena like Pokémon Go, Pokémon is still as relevant as ever, and it clearly can still pull in a crowd when it releases something new. Taking a classic series like Pokémon and giving it a new, innovative twist that's still rooted in one of the series' recent video games seems like a surefire path to success.

Even in the midst of a crowded blockbuster slate, Detective Pikachu seems sure to be a hit when it arrives on May 10th, and fans are eagerly getting ready to get to know this new, Ryan Reynolds-voiced version of Pikachu that they never knew they needed. From its surprising star to the slightly risqué rating and its innovative shooting style, there are a few things you should know before you pick up your ticket to Detective Pikachu — here's all the background you need on Pikachu, the world of Pokémon, and more.

1- A little Poké-background

If you're not familiar with the world of Pokémon, you might want to brush up before you head into Detective Pikachu. Known as "Pocket Monsters" in its home country of Japan, this Nintendo series of video games came to the United States in 1998 with Pokémon Red and Blue for the Nintendo Game Boy, and as of 2017, has sold more copies than any other Game Boy game besides Tetris. This massive franchise continued with more video games as the game consoles developed, releasing titles for the Game Boy Advance to the Nintendo Switch, with plenty of spinoffs of the main games as well.

Image result for pokemon detective

In the main game series, players become Pokémon trainers, capturing wild animal-monster hybrids known as Pokémon and battling other trainers along the way, as well as fighting elite trainers like Gym Leaders (in order to earn badges) and the Elite Four (which makes you the Champion of the region if you win). Trainers must also face off against evil gangs and corporations, from Pokémon Red & Blue's Team Rocket to Pokémon Sun & Moon's Team Skull. Most of the games (with a few exceptions) have two "versions," which feature the same plot and gameplay but different Pokémon, so that players must trade with each other in order to "catch 'em all." Between video games, films, a popular trading card series, a television show, Pokémon Go, and more, Pokémon has secured its spot as the highest-grossing media franchise of all time.

2- A specific inspiration

Before Detective Pikachu was chosen to be the next installment in the Pokémon film franchise, it was simply one of the spinoff video games in the series, released in full in 2018 for Nintendo's 3DS console. Breaking away from the loose narratives and specific quests of the original series, this entry dispensed with Gym badges and catching Pokémon to focus instead on the story of a special talking Pikachu (an "electric mouse" who is arguably the most famous Pokémon of the franchise) who teams up with a young boy, Tim Goodman, who is the only person who can understand Pikachu when he speaks.

Based on a specific video game

Similar in some ways to Pokémon Yellow, one of the original standalone games where the player performed the same tasks as they would in Red & Blue except that their starter Pokémon, a Pikachu, followed behind the player as they walked through the game, Detective Pikachu lets the player (as Tim) solve mysteries with the talking Pikachu, evoking the Pokémon anime series. The game received mixed reviews, with some extremely positive reactions, but ultimately, some critics noted that it might make a better movie than video game.

3- A new direction

Though there are plenty of Pokémon movies, Detective Pikachu notably marks the first live-action film in the history of the series, and some longtime Pokémon fans were likely curious about why this installment would choose to focus on a relatively recent Pokémon story rather than continue the adventures of Ash, Misty, and Brock from the original films. Director Rob Letterman has opened up about this decision, saying he wanted this film to be set apart from the pack and tell a new story, especially considering how many films have focused on the original character. Thanks to live actors, a noir feel, and CGI that makes the Pokémon in the film look entirely lifelike, Detective Pikachu will be able to make its mark in the franchise with a totally fresh take on these beloved characters.

Pokemon.

It will also seemingly be geared towards both adults and children, another notable departure from the original films — Detective Pikachu officially earned a PG rating from the MPAA, unlike the G-rated Pokémon animated films. Though some fans speculated that the film might even earn a PG-13 rating, Nintendo likely didn't want to keep kids out of the audience altogether, but will make sure any parents or Pokémon nostalgics enjoy it just as much as anyone else.

4- Meet Justice Smith

Plenty of familiar faces are featured in Detective Pikachu, including British actors like Bill Nighy (Love Actually) and Chris Geere (You're the Worst) alongside veterans like Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai), but one face you might not know yet is Justice Smith, who plays the leading role of Tim Goodman.

Smith has a small but impressive resume, getting his start in television before landing a supporting role in 2015's Paper Towns, an adaptation of a popular young adult novel by John Green. After that breakout, Smith found more success when Baz Luhrmann cast him as the lead in his Netflix series The Get Down, even though the series was canceled after just one season. His largest pre-Pikachu role, however, came in 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom as Franklin Webb, a former IT technician who has since become an analyst and hacker and can help track the dinosaurs that have spread across the park. With the news that Smith would lead Detective Pikachu as the title character's loyal companion and fellow detective, it became clear that this young actor has far more success ahead of him, and Detective Pikachu looks like it's just another early milestone in a long career.

5- The wide world of Pokémon

Don't be fooled by the title — even though Pikachu is the only Pokémon referenced in the title of Detective Pikachu, the film also features plenty of other classic Pokémon that longtime fans will remember from the animated films, the television series, and the original video games. Pokémon spanning several generations and well beyond the original 151 (with every video game, the number of Pokémon has expanded greatly) will be featured, pleasing fans of every generation, from the classics to the newest additions to the Pokémon family.

Other Pokémon are in it

Though the directors are making sure to diversify the Pokémon in the film, including newer creatures like Aipom, Morelull, and Emolga, the most recognizable will likely be some of the original 150 Pokémon present. Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander, the three starting Pokémon from which players could choose in Pokémon Red & Blue, are all there, as well as their evolutions, like Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. One of the film's trailers also prominently featured favorites like Mr. Mime and Jigglypuff, and Pokémon will also be on hand as companions to several human characters; Lucy Stevens (Kathryn Newton), a reporter who helps Tim solve mysteries, is accompanied by her own personal Pokémon, a Psyduck, and other characters are aided by Pokémon like Snubbull and Charizard.

6- Encouraging reactions

In November of 2018, some lucky viewers got the chance to see an early screening of Detective Pikachu, and early reactions have been quite positive. Audiences have specifically praised Reynolds' voice acting and his chemistry with star Justice Smith, and even though the CGI was reportedly partially unfinished during this November screening, it's said to be extremely lifelike, with the effects largely inspired by the super-realistic portrayal of computer-generated characters like Rocket Raccoon, the Marvel fan favorite who first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy. Test screening numbers have been excellent since, drumming up even more anticipation for the film.
Early screenings have gone well

What all of this means for Detective Pikachu, besides good reviews and potential box office success, is that it could also hold the distinction of being a well-received video game adaptation. From infamously bad films like Super Mario Bros. to ill-advised big studio attempts like Warcraft, video game movies are pretty much known for being terrible, so it's very possible that Detective Pikachu could break the mold by becoming the first video game film to earn widespread acclaim.

7- An old-fashioned approach

Thanks to its innovative CGI work, audiences might expect that Detective Pikachu was shot almost entirely using motion-capture suits and green screen, but as star Justice Smith told New York Magazine that definitely wasn't the case. According to Smith, director Rob Letterman wanted to shoot on location as much as possible, and filming took place in both London and Scotland, eschewing green screens and using the natural beauty of Scotland as well as the urban backdrop of London to great effect, particularly because Letterman reportedly wanted to juxtapose the fantastical world of Pokémon against a gritty urban landscape to make the creatures "pop more."

It was shot on film

Most notably, Smith revealed in this interview that beyond a filter Letterman and the film's special effects crew eventually applied to the shots to give it a grainy feel, the movie already had that quality to it thanks to the fact that it was shot on film. Detective Pikachu will visibly set itself apart from any of its Pokémon predecessors, perhaps beginning a whole new tradition for the cinematic branch of the franchise.

8- Trailer frenzy

When the first trailer for Detective Pikachu dropped in November of 2018, audiences were at once confused and delighted by their first sighting of the title character, who had the cutesy, classic look of Pikachu paired with the quip-laden banter of Deadpool (a pretty killer combination). The first trailer introduced the basic story of Pikachu and Tim's quest to find his missing father as well as making sure viewers got glimpses of other Pokémon, while also making it clear that this Pikachu would be a slightly more grown-up iteration of the beloved children's character.

The second trailer, released in February of 2019, featured even more Pokémon alongside Pikachu, including the first glimpse of Mewtwo, a legendary Pokémon introduced in the first game that is more powerful than most others thanks to a series of mysterious experiments. With this second, more in-depth trailer, fans got a better look at the overall world of Detective Pikachu, further ramping up excitement for the film's arrival.

9- There's more where this came from

The studios and team behind Detective Pikachu have already been met with excitement and acclaim thanks to the trailers they've released thus far, but they also must be fairly confident that Detective Pikachu will be a success — ahead of the film's release, it was announced that there's already a sequel in the works. Currently, the only concrete news about the sequel is that it will be written by Oren Uziel, who is best known for his work on screenplays for films like 22 Jump Street, Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Cloverfield Paradox.
There's already a sequel planned

Whether or not director Rob Letterman or stars like Reynolds and Smith would return for future installments is still up in the air, but presumably, if the film does well, the director and his two two leads could be persuaded to return to their roles. It's still too soon to tell, but we could be looking at a brand new Pikachu-based franchise that lights up the box office for years to come.
